Year: Senior Major: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Hometown: Dover, NH Who's your cow? Sherry, 4211 What's your favorite thing about her? Sherry is everyone's princess! She's pretty (the only red cow in the string), sweet, and easy to handle. I love her dearly and she could not care less. Tell us about your previous animal husbandry experience. I've worked plenty of odd jobs caring for cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, horses, you name it, but the bulk of my dairy experience has been working at the UNH Organic Dairy Research Farm. I currently live there and help care for a herd of just over 100 Jersey cows and heifers. Why did you decide to do CREAM? I'm the type of person who learns best by jumping straight in. I want to learn about the science and technology of dairy management as it is applied, and CREAM seemed like the perfect opportunity for that!
What are your hopes and goals for the year?
I want to learn as many new skills as I possibly can before I graduate and form a clearer idea of the type of operation I want to run in the future. What do you do when you're not in the barn? I love hiking, rock climbing, and film photography, and I am the sabre captain of the UNH Fencing Club. I am also a card-carrying geek and I never go more than a week without a game of Magic or Dungeons & Dragons with friends.
